Composting Efforts

FeedNC uses food waste from their grocery department to aid in on site composting efforts. Why is composting important? Not only does composting food help reduce methane emissions from food that other wise ends up in landfills, compost at FeedNC also nourishes the soil of Mimi’s Garden and aids our production of fresh produce that is distributed  back into the community via fresh cooked meals and the grassroots grocery.

Rainwater Harvesting

By collecting rainwater, we can capture and store rainwater to then reuse it later. This allows us to practice sustainability in ways that benefit the garden, the environment, and our budget. Our garden is equipped with a drip irrigation system, but our harvested rainwater allows us to water our raised beds, wash our garden tools, and supplement our irrigation system on those particularly dry days. We encourage our community to explore how this practice can be possible at their own residence.
