Mario Campos was born and raised in Hyderabad, India, where he studied Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he worked for 14 years in various management capacities at a multi-national company that produced Industrial, Medical Gases, and other related products. In 1977, he emigrated to the USA and worked in Indiana at Northern Indiana Public Service Company (Nipsco), a Gas and Electric Utility. Having served in various capacities for 20 years, he retired as Director of Gas Operations & Meter Management. He continued to work for 4 more years as a consultant at the parent company, NiSource. While working in Indiana, Mario obtained an Executive MBA degree from the University of Chicago.
Mario and his wife, the late Theresa Marie Campos, a Registered Nurse Anesthetist, moved to Mooresville in January 2001. Since then, Mario has been active in the community. He joined the Mooresville Community Choir and was part of the group that started and ran the Tuesday Jamboree Concert Series at the Civic Center. He has also been working at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen/FeedNC for the past 20 plus years.
Having seen first-hand, the plight of the poor and underprivileged in places like Calcutta and other Indian cities where he worked, Mario feels compelled to help those in need – even those closer to home here in the Mooresville and surrounding communities.
FeedNC is an exemplary organization doing great work in this regard. They have an outstanding team of dedicated leaders, employees, and volunteers, who whole-heartedly believe in their Mission and their work shows. Mario feels blessed, and at the same time honored, to be a member of the FeedNC Board since 2021. He also serves on its Development Committee while continuing to work as a volunteer in the Donoghue Community Dining Room, and provides help to the FeedNC team in other areas, as needed.
Mario is an active member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville. He is a cantor and choir member and serves on the Finance Council and the Stewardship Committee. St. Therese has always supported FeedNC, The Mooresville Christian Mission, and other charitable organizations in the community. For St. Therese’s 75 th Anniversary celebrations, the parishioners raised funds for both organizations; Mario was one of the co-chairs of the team that organized the fundraising efforts.
Mario has a son and daughter, and has 3 grandchildren.
