What is Mimi’s Garden?

The Earnhardt family and The Dale Jr. Foundation combined with longtime partner Unilever help establish Mimi’s Garden in honor of Brenda Jackson (also known as Mimi), who is the mother of both Kelley Earnhardt Miller and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who passed away in 2019 following a battle with cancer.

This one acre produce garden and food-focused resource provides FeedNC the opportunity to help end the cycle of hunger and poverty with extensive programs for those in need. This garden will grow produce that will nourish those in need, used in The Grassroots Grocery Program and be used as an ingredient for meals served through the new Donoghue’s Open Door Community Dining.

In addition, the garden will used to educate the community members of all ages the importance of growing food in a sustainable way that respects the land. Volunteers will be an integral part of this special garden. We welcome all to come and get their hands dirty!

Brenda Jackson was one-of-a-kind.

As mother to me and my brother Dale Jr., she was bigger than life on the outside, brash at times, always looking for a laugh and never afraid to say what needed to be said.

But on the inside, beneath that sassy exterior, she was compassionate, intensely caring and generous with her time and her advice. Among her biggest joys in life were family, pets, cooking, gardening, fashion and her seven grandchildren, who called her Mimi.

Her passion for gardening is the foundation for Mimi’s Garden, which our entire family is proud to see as part of the new Feed NC location in Mooresville. I know that she’d be honored to be involved in supporting its mission to help change the food insecurities that people are facing today.
